We’ve got lots going on around Green Turtle Cay this Christmas. Here’s a list of some of the holiday happenings.
Saturday, November 24th: Festival of Lights – Light Up the Settlement
Join us at the basketball court as we kick off the Christmas season and light up New Plymouth. We’ll be entertained by the Sax Man and there’ll be games and activities for kids of all ages. Dinner, drinks and sweets will be available for purchase, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, December 1st: St. Peter’s Anglican Church Annual Rummage Sale
From 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Golden Reef, St. Peter’s holds its annual rummage sale. The shop will be full of tremendous gently used and some brand new items. All funds raised will be put towards the church mortgage.
Friday, December 7th: Christmas Tree Lighting
7:00 p.m. at the Town Administrator’s Office
Saturday, December 8th: St. Peter’s Anglican Church Christmas Bazaar
From 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the George Reckley Hall. There will be amazing gift baskets for sale, along with delicious food and desserts.
Saturday, December 15th: St. Peter’s Anglican Church Santa’s Workshop
A kids-only event from 9:00 a.m. to noon, where Santa’s elves help the island’s kids do their Christmas shopping. Gifts range between $2 and $10. Kids under 16 welcome.
Saturday, December 15th: Festival of Lights – Community Christmas Caroling
Join our morning carolers on this extra, evening caroling march through the community, starting at the Administrator’s Office. Light refreshments to follow.
Monday, December 17th – Candlelight Church Service
St. Peter’s Anglican Church at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, December 22nd: Festival of Lights – Torchlight Parade, Golf Cart Parade & Santa’s Sendoff
The final night of the community’s Christmas celebration features a torchlight parade by the students of Amy Roberts Primary School. We’ll have our traditional Golf Cart Parade, and we’ll be announcing the winner of Best Decorated House. And, the man of the season, Santa will make one last appearance before heading out for his Christmas Eve rounds. Festivities begin at the basketball court at 5:00 p.m. and dinner, beverages and sweets available for purchase.
Tuesday, January 1st, 2018: Junkanoo
Somewhere around 2:00 pm, local residents dressed in elaborate, vividly coloured costumes gather in front of McIntosh’s Restaurant and wind their way through the settlement, accompanied by traditional goat skin drums, brass instruments, whistles and, of course, cowbells. Be sure to bring your camera!
