My cousin Evan Lowe came across this photo, which we believe was taken in Nassau somewhere around the late 1940s or early 1950s.
I think that’s Hog Island (now known as Paradise Island) in the background, and it’s been suggested that these men may have been affiliated with the Nassau Sailing Club, but we don’t know for sure.
If you recognize anyone, please identify them by leaving a comment below. And please feel free to forward a link to this page to anyone else who may be able to help. Thanks!
#21 is Kenneth Albury from Cherokee Abaco
Thanks, Greg. That’s interesting, because at first glance, I thought #22 was my Uncle Cuthbert Albury from Marsh Harbour, but I thought these were all Nassau folks. Maybe that isn’t the case…?
This was taken at The Nassau Yacht Club.
Thanks, Beth! If that’s the case, then these may not necessarily have been boaters, but could have just been attending a social event at the Yacht Club.
No. 19 looks to me to be Sloane Farmington.
Should be “Farrington”
Yesterday I saw this same photo in a shop here in Nassau, they had identified some of the men. Just passing on the information they had. Sailing-Nassau Yacht Club Circa1940’s—- #7 Godfrey Higgs, #8 Basil McKinney, #10 Durward Knowles, #17 Ekkie Lowe, #19 Sloan Farrington, #20 Algernon (Buster) Rae, #21 Kenneth Albury, #23 Roland Symonette, #24 Oswald (Ozzie) Moseley.
Hope this can help.
Hi, Marsha. That’s great info! Thanks so much for passing it along.
