My cousin Evan Lowe came across this photo, which we believe was taken in Nassau somewhere around the late 1940s or early 1950s.

Can you identify anyone in this photo taken in Nassau sometime during the 1940s or 50s?

I think that’s Hog Island (now known as Paradise Island) in the background, and it’s been suggested that these men may have been affiliated with the Nassau Sailing Club, but we don’t know for sure.

    Thanks, Greg. That’s interesting, because at first glance, I thought #22 was my Uncle Cuthbert Albury from Marsh Harbour, but I thought these were all Nassau folks. Maybe that isn’t the case…?

      Thanks, Beth! If that’s the case, then these may not necessarily have been boaters, but could have just been attending a social event at the Yacht Club.

    No. 19 looks to me to be Sloane Farmington.

    Yesterday I saw this same photo in a shop here in Nassau, they had identified some of the men. Just passing on the information they had. Sailing-Nassau Yacht Club Circa1940’s—- #7 Godfrey Higgs, #8 Basil McKinney, #10 Durward Knowles, #17 Ekkie Lowe, #19 Sloan Farrington, #20 Algernon (Buster) Rae, #21 Kenneth Albury, #23 Roland Symonette, #24 Oswald (Ozzie) Moseley.
