You know the saying, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans?” Well, without warning, a whole pile of unplanned life landed in my lap over the past month.
October ended on a high note – I attended the Writer’s Digest Novel Writing Conference, where I not only made some fantastic new writer friends (hello, Underdogs!) but I found the inspiration to finish a novel I’ve been working on for more than a decade and to tackle National Blog Post Month (NaBloPoMo.)
Late one night halfway through the conference, however, I was updating something here on the blog. I hit a wrong button and accidentally switched my WordPress theme – that’s basically the layout of the blog. Of course, the new layout was nothing like the old one, meaning that if you clicked onto the blog, all you’d see was a messy jumble of text and photos.
Panicked, I tried switching it back. And that’s when I learned that the theme I’ve been using for almost five years has been discontinued. There was no going back.
My only option now was to sift through hundreds of other WordPress layouts, test them to see which ones had the features I wanted/needed, decide on one and basically redesign the blog!
So, in between finishing the conference, taking an unscheduled trip to Canada for a family matter and writing a blog post a day for NaBloPoMo, I managed to find a WordPress theme similar to the old one plus a few added bells and whistles, and redesigned Little House by the Ferry.
There are still a couple of small bugs to work out, but essentially, everything from the old layout should be here and, equally importantly, in the correct place.
If you see anything that seems out of whack, let me know.
While life’s timing could certainly have been better, I must admit I’m quite happy with the new layout. I hope you will be, too.
P.S. And with this post, I have successfully completed NaBloPoMo. Phew!
