Does anyone know the reason for this cut in the rocks on the ocean beach side of Green Turtle Cay?

Beach north of the point at Gillam Bay, Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas. Does anyone know why this gap was created? It seems too cleanly cut to have occurred naturally. If it is man-made, one assumes it was made to allow boat access, but it seems awfully narrow for that purpose…

  1. IF THE TRENCH LEADS TO A SWAMP WHERE MOSQUITOS WERE BREEDING THE TRENCH WOULD ALLOW SALT WATER TO ENTER AND KILL THE MOSQUITOS,   TOMMY

    • Hmmm… I don’t think there’s a swampy area there now, but not sure what might have been there when the rock was cut out… (And good to know that salt water kills the mosquitoes — could sure use some of it tonight!!)

  2. It seems to head to Pelican Cay. An underwater electrical cable? Water line? The wider opening nearby seems more appropriate for hauling boats out. If you find out, let us know!

  3. We asked about that gap earlier this year when we were looking at a house very near it, and we were told that it once housed an electrical cable that went out to the island just beyond.
