A Year’s Worth of Gratitude

Towards the end of last year, a friend suggested choosing a word on which to focus during 2017. I selected “gratitude.”

With that in mind, I wanted my first post of the year to reflect my appreciation for the support and assistance I received from so many during 2016.

First off, thank you to everyone who reads, follows and shares this blog. In the three years since it was launched, Little House by the Ferry has been viewed over 400,000 times by more than 142,000 visitors in 148 countries around the world!

Gigantic thanks are due as well to my cousin, Alton Lowe, my husband, Tom Walters, the entire team at Gorham Printing and everyone who helped bring Those Who Stayed to life.

Admittedly, the deadline I gave myself for completing and publishing the book might have been a bit on the ambitious side. But with the patience, kindness and generosity of many, I was able to complete it as planned, in time for the 40th anniversary celebration of the Albert Lowe Museum.

I’m truly grateful to Molly McIntosh and her amazing Bluff House Beach Resort team for their help in planning what turned out to be a terrific book launch, and to the Board of Directors of the Wyannie Malone Historic Museum and Tom Hazel and the staff at the Abaco Inn for arranging a book signing for me in Hope Town.

One of the biggest surprises about Those Who Stayed was how heavy the final book is. Each copy weighs more than two pounds! To every single person who helped haul books to the post office, to the ferry or the car or the golf cart, to the book launch or to a signing, a million thanks. Hopefully my next book will make for lighter reading.

Finally, for reasons I’ll expand upon in future posts, the past few months have been difficult ones for me personally. As a result, I haven’t posted here on the blog nearly as often as I would have liked. Thanks to all you readers and followers for sticking with me.
