If your gift list for the upcoming holiday season includes a wildlife aficionado or an Abaco lover, check out The Delphi Club Guide to the Birds of Abaco.
Granted, it’s a bit of a splurge, but this guide is simply exquisite. Published in Italy, it includes hundreds of vivid images of 150+ different birds all in their natural Abaco, Bahamas surroundings. Part proceeds from the book are being contributed to local wildlife organizations, and the publishers have donated a copy to every school and library in Abaco.
If you’ll pardon the pun, the timing of the Delphi Guide dovetails nicely with the growth of bird-based tourism in the Bahamas.
A recent Bahamas Weekly article reported that more than 80 Bahamians have now completed a bird-watching training workshop presented by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the National Audubon Society and the Bahamas National Trust.
The workshop is part of an international project in which the National Audubon Society has partnered with local non-government organizations in Belize, The Bahamas, Guatemala and Paraguay to create employment in these regions and protect biodiversity and natural resources by promoting bird-based tourism.
